Circus Lesvos
Start: June 2024
“If the children can’t come to us, we have to go to them”
Since June 2021, we have been running regular circus workshops and organizing performances on the island. Circus Lesvos aims to bring joy and creativity to underserved communities on the island of Lesvos. We believe that everyone deserves a chance to experience the magic of circus and we strive to make this possible through our programs. Our team is made up of professional circus trainers, performers, educators and volunteers who are passionate about changing the lives of people and communities!
At “Circus Lesvos”, a joint initiative of LaMule cirque and the Greek circus school “Monokyklo”, one of our effective initiatives is regular circus classes in Parea centers for refugees. It is particularly important to us that the community, the refugees, are part of the team. They shape Circus Lesvos and make up 50 percent of the team.
Through juggling, balancing and various games, the participants have the opportunity to discover themselves and experience moments of unity in which every achievement is celebrated and shared. The circus activity strengthens individually and as a group, reduces isolation and creates perspectives. The physical and artistic activity conveys positive experiences that enable a sense of belonging without language.
The :do Foundation supports Circus Lesvos with structural funding and contributes to the trainer’s fees.
