Women In Solidarity House Lesvos
Start: 2024
WISH Lesvos is a small collective (10-13 women*) which was founded in 2018 in Lesvos when there was still the old Moria camp with more than 20.000 residents. We stand for freedom of movement for everyone and for a world free from racism, sexism, xenophobia, capitalism.
Our goals and work: We create a (safer) spaces where we can recover, but also organize and resist. We want to share our struggles, speak about our rights, and discuss different ways of resistance in order to create a strong network. We organize (women’s) assemblies and little workshops with mainly residents from the refugee camp Kara Tepe about the political situation, personal topics, legal advice, menstrual hygiene, first aid. At the same time we provide direct support where the government is failing, which means providing medication, food, hygienic items, but also monetary support for those who want to move on, which means we support to cover expenses for travel documents and pay ferry tickets, whenever people are able to leave the island (only for people on the move and only after we agreed on it in our weekly assembly). Last, we provide housing mostly for women from the camp affected by domestic violence.
The :do foundation decided to fund WISH Lesvos to provide housing, build safer spaces and to create media work for the situation at the borders.
