Saffron Kitchen Project

Beginn: Januar 2024

SKP has operated a social kitchen in central Athens since April 2022, where it uses food as a tool-kit to help people lead healthy and self-sustaining lives. Our work is multi-faceted and takes place under three interlocking pillars:
Nourish: SKP provides 5000 nutritious and flavoursome meals per month (our young people love them!). Most of SKP’s food is distributed and consumed at partner organisations premises like ours (between 25 and 30 partners at any one time), whilst it also has an onsite dining room. SKPs meals have boosted attendance at the Velos Youth Centre.
Train: SKP offers free culinary education and vocational training in partnership with IEK Delta, a certified Greek Lifelong Learning Centre. Across 60 hours, the training provides a combination of culinary and soft skills, including teamwork, leadership and time management.
Employ: SKP creates job opportunities for people from the refugee community. Most of SKP’s team members come from the refugee community, including its Head Chef and Sous Chef.

SKP’s meals are available to all. Whilst the kitchen was established originally to support displaced people in Athens, many local people also benefit; around 15% of the food produced goes to the general homeless population. SKP would put the entirety of the donation towards the cost of ingredients. With the donation SKP will be able to produce around 2500 hot meals.
